Momtography 101

I asked and you answered!

There is a definite need from my friends and clients when it comes to documenting life in between sessions.
It is SO important to invest in having images made by a professional you trust to ensure that:

A. You have quality images that will withstand the test of time and
B. YOU will actually be in the images no matter how you feel about it.

But, as a mom, I 100% understand that having a photographer follow you around to document every little detail of your family and your kids growing up would be unfeasible (and pretty darn expensive).

So I have decided to put my love of helping & educating others to good use and have created:

Momtography 101

Mom-what?!?

I have planned, dreamed, discussed, and created an experience that will allow YOU to use that nice camera you got for Christmas (or Mother's Day or your iPhone, etc.) and document what you love in a beautiful and meaningful way. But it's not just a class. When you participate in Momtography 101, you will be getting so much more than just a few hours of my time. After the class is over and you still have questions or need help, you will have access to our private Facebook group where everyone who has completed the class can continue to learn and grow together. You can ask questions, post things you try or learn, and encourage each other. Also, I will be giving each one of you a PDF of the full presentation I have created to refer back to when you are stuck or need a quick reminder.

I have spent the last 4.5 years (since Sawyer was born) learning about photography and how to get to where I am today when it comes to documenting my family. This course takes all of that trial and error + time spent researching and delivers it in a single, easy-to-follow class. I have put my heart and soul into making this class everything I wish I had when I started.

What will we learn?

We will cover camera basics, shooting in manual mode, exposure, and so much more. These are just a few of the 7 different areas I plan on teaching and the course is packed with tips and advice to help you be successful no matter what you currently know or shoot with.

What won’t we learn?

This class is for hobbyists who want to take better pictures. It is not for people who are interested in photography as a business so we will not be learning about anything business-related. I also will not be teaching too much about editing (post-processing) because I believe that capturing life authentically happens 99% BEFORE you press the shutter. However, I will show you how I edit a few images in the private Facebook group and plan on teaching courses that include basic editing in the future as well.

What should we bring?

A device you plan on using to take pictures of your life. This can be a phone, digital camera, DSLR or mirrorless camera. I highly recommend you bring a DSLR or mirrorless camera if you own one and if you are considering buying a camera soon I would stick to those because they will give you the most control when it comes to capturing the images you want. This class will be especially useful to those of you who have a nice camera that someone gave you or bought for you and you just haven't figured out how to get what you want out of it yet. That is exactly how my journey started and I am here to help!

Something to take notes with. I will be providing you with a copy of the entire presentation which you are welcome to take notes on or use as you please but you may find a notebook helpful for taking notes during the hands-on portion or if you have a lot of questions.

-Questions! After the classroom portion, we will go shoot together so you can see everything we just learned in action. This is the perfect time to ask all of your questions and get answers and examples in real-time.

*There will be light refreshments provided.

Not a mom? No problem!

I have received a few inquiries from people who said they'd love to learn more about taking pictures but they aren't moms. I would love to share this information with you too. This class will cover a lot of information that will help any hobbyist or beginner. Just know that the focus will be on working in conditions that most momtogs will be facing (indoor light, harsh sun, etc.) so we won't be going over artificial lighting or post-processing in detail during this time.

One note here: this class is ONLY for hobbyists and not for anyone who currently runs a photography business or plans on opening one in the next year. If that is you and you would like some help, please email me and I will discuss options with you.

Can't make this one?
